Finnish Food Week: how Finnish is your Ruokaboksi?

In week 36, the Ruokaboksi menu gives extra space to Finnish flavours and familiar classics. Finnish Food Day is celebrated on Friday, 4 September, in honour of Finnish food and the people behind it. For Ruokaboksi, however, Finnish sourcing is not a one-week theme but part of everyday decisions.
How Finnish is Ruokaboksi?
Around 80% of all Ruokaboksi ingredients are Finnish, regardless of the week. The share varies slightly with season and availability, but the principle stays the same: choose Finnish whenever quality and supply make it possible.
Whenever possible, ingredients are bought directly from Finnish producers. A shorter journey from producer to box removes unnecessary steps and storage while helping ingredients arrive fresh.
Finnish food is everyday food
Finnish food is not limited to celebrations or traditional dishes. It is also potatoes, root vegetables, greens, fish, meat and grains turned into easy, delicious weeknight meals. Ruokaboksi recipes use fresh ingredients, with vegetables playing an important role.
How Finnish sourcing shows in Ruokaboksi

Orders follow demand and packages are portioned for each recipe
Fresh ingredients and vegetables are at the heart of the recipes
Precise planning helps reduce food waste
Ruokaboksi knows in advance how much each week's recipes require. Products are ordered according to demand and packed in recipe-sized portions, helping reduce surplus food in the supply chain and at home.
When the fridge contains the amount a recipe actually needs, meal planning becomes easier too. Every ingredient has a purpose from the start.
Celebrate Finnish food in your own way
According to Ruokatieto, Finnish Food Day aims to increase appreciation for domestic food and make the skill and work of the Finnish food chain more visible. At home, celebrating can be as simple as cooking with Finnish ingredients or checking where your food comes from.
