Avocado recipes for a creamy, tasty dinner – our chefs pick the ingredients and deliver them to your door.

An avocado is ripe when the skin gives slightly near the stem. A hard avocado ripens at room temperature in 1–3 days, and noticeably faster in a paper bag with a banana or an apple. A ripe avocado keeps in the fridge for about two days.

The most popular avocado dishes include avocado and halloumi pasta, avocado pasta salad, guacamole and avocado toast. In a sauce or pasta, add the avocado only at the end, off the heat, because long heating makes it bitter.

One ripe avocado is enough for two servings of avocado pasta: blend it smooth with cream cheese or pasta cooking water and season with lemon, garlic and black pepper. Fried halloumi adds saltiness and texture, and cherry tomatoes bring freshness.

Lemon or lime juice slows browning, so add it as soon as you've halved the avocado. A halved avocado keeps better with the stone left in and the cut surface tightly wrapped in cling film. An overripe avocado is better used for a dip or smoothie than for a salad.

Avocado works in vegetarian dishes as well as with chicken, salmon and prawns. In Ruokaboksi's recipes, the ingredients arrive at your door pre-measured, so the avocado is always ready to use at just the right time – with no waste and no guesswork at the shop.
