When Finnish origin meets responsibility – the story of a partnership between Järvikylä and Ruokaboksi that began in Ruokaboksi’s early years

When Ruokaboksi was founded, the goal was clear: to make everyday meals easier and more enjoyable with high-quality Finnish ingredients. From the start, it was important to find partners who shared the same values – and one of these partners was found in Järvikylä.

Many people recognise Järvikylä from the salad and herb shelves in supermarkets. It is a Finnish family business with roots dating back to the 17th century. Famifarm, the company behind the Järvikylä brand, is a pioneer in Finnish greenhouse farming. When it comes to expertise, responsible farming and a love of Finnish food, Järvikylä products are in a class of their own. So it is no surprise that the partnership with Ruokaboksi began naturally – and has remained close ever since.

What does the partnership actually include?

Ruokaboksi’s recipes are planned well in advance, and many recipes are taken to the next level with fresh herbs or a crisp salad. Ruokaboksi sends Famifarm its exact requirements 6 weeks in advance. This allows Famifarm to sow exactly the right amount of produce for Ruokaboksi at exactly the right time. Not too much, not too little – just the right amount for Ruokaboksi customers’
needs.

This careful planning allows Famifarm’s greenhouses to focus on quality and responsible growing without unnecessary waste or excess capacity. Every coriander plant, mint plant and iceberg lettuce grown for Ruokaboksi is used rather than wasted.

A good, long-term partnership becomes stronger over time. Ruokaboksi and Famifarm know each other, understand each other’s needs and believe that good food comes from a transparent production chain, ethical farming and skilled work.

When a Ruokaboksi customer opens their box and finds fresh herbs from Järvikylä, they get more than just an ingredient. The herbs reflect Finnish expertise and a shared commitment to doing things better – for both people and the environment.
