Ruokaboksi

Finnish origin

When Ruokaboksi arrives at your door, it brings not only the week's recipes but also plenty of Finnish food. In fact, around 80% of all Ruokaboksi ingredients are sourced from Finland.

For us, Finnish origin is not just a label on the packaging. It is reflected in the choices we make every week when planning recipes and sourcing ingredients. We want to use Finnish ingredients whenever it is possible and makes sense.

From local producers straight to your box

Ruokaboksi aims to keep the journey of food as direct as possible. Whenever possible, we source ingredients directly from Finnish producers and pack them into Ruokaboksi meal boxes without unnecessary intermediaries or temporary storage.

This way, we know where our ingredients come from and can build long-term partnerships with Finnish producers. At the same time, as much of the food’s value as possible stays where the food is made and produced.

And above all, good Finnish food ends up where it belongs: on your plate.

Less waste, more good food

At Ruokaboksi, we know the week's meals and the ingredients needed for them before we purchase the products. This means we can order ingredients based on actual demand instead of keeping products in stock while waiting for a potential buyer.

The ingredients delivered to your home are also measured for the recipes. The idea is simple: as much of the food as possible ends up on your plate instead of going to waste.

Finnish food is part of everyday life

When we talk about Finnish food, familiar traditional dishes and festive meals easily come to mind. For us, however, Finnish food is first and foremost everyday food.

It can be Finnish potatoes in Wednesday’s oven-baked dish, locally grown vegetables in pasta, or a Finnish ingredient in a recipe inspired by flavours from the other side of the world.

Ruokaboksi recipes use Finnish ingredients in many different ways. The selection includes familiar everyday meals, international flavours and new dishes to try. Using Finnish ingredients does not always mean making traditional Finnish food.

For us, Finnish food is at its best when it is made with good local ingredients and is something you want to eat on an ordinary Tuesday.

Meet the everyday food heroes behind Ruokaboksi

Behind Ruokaboksi is a large group of people whose work may not be visible when the finished meal is served at the table. Farmers, producers and other partners who help Finnish ingredients make their way from fields and production facilities into Ruokaboksi – and finally onto your plate.

We also want to give more visibility to their work. That is why we introduce Everyday Food Heroes: Finnish producers and partners, and the stories behind Ruokaboksi's ingredients.

You can read their stories on this page soon.
